Growing Up Online
In The Movie ‘Growing Up Online’ by Frontline, we can see how social networking can be a bad influence to teenagers and how dangerous it is. Internet is a very open community, everyone is free to do what they want, so it’s very hard to control teenagers who’s using it to wrong way.
Like the movie showed us, It’s true that I can be ‘me’, the real ‘me’ in communication on internet, and I think the internet is the only place where we can do that. That’s one of good thing for sure, but teenagers don’t have enough mind and think to control that. So if there’s no care of an adult for guide them to right way, I think it’s very dangerous for teenagers. But it’s not all of them who needs help. If teenagers try to use internet properly and think again and again before they upload or post something, I think everything can go fine. I’m sure that it’s possible and also easy to do if they try hard, because me and my friends are just doing fine, no making any trouble.
For me, Internet is a great place where I can show everything about me and enjoy what I like to do, but always be careful about what will happen or cause. Also I made lots of online friends and I love them. We never met before but we always care and help each other. They’re all kind and match perfect with me. Internet is another place where we can find people who has same hobby and interest as mine. I’m Korean living in Canada and I’m very into korean boy band called ‘TVXQ!’, so it’s very hard to find friend I can talk to in real life, but it’s easy to make friend who’s exactly my type, when I go and talk to people in TVXQ!’s fan site. Also in my blog, about 150 people coming everyday left comments or sending me e-mails to thanking to me for the posts and files that I uploaded, so I’m very proud that my blog can be useful for someone and many people can come and enjoy. But I never upload or post something if I think it’ll make some trouble. If teenagers always be careful like me when they’re social networking, I don’t think there’s any problem.
It’s good to express itself and communicate online but it’s important to know the limit line. I think the school has to teach about it to students and show them how dangerous if we use internet withough any notion and responsibility.
